Vibhor Sogani born in 1967 in Jaipur, Rajasthan grew up in a city known for its crafts and cultural traditions. He passed his schooling and board exams with good marks but did not wish to study engineering or medicine. Fortunately for him, his aptitude for creativity and 3D visualization was identified by a career counselor at the right juncture, and as advised he joined the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad from where he graduated in Industrial design. He learned to draw and sketch, worked on different types of exhibitions and interiors and visualized a range of projects from ideation to execution as part of his project work at the NID.
The designer-artist-sculptor Vibhor Sogani after finishing his course in Ahmedabad moved to Mumbai and worked in the furniture division of Godrej Group designing the brand's executive-chair range for almost a year. Started his own company, ODD (Office of Design & Development), and shifted from Mumbai to Delhi. At the turn of the century launched his signature brand of lifestyle accessories under the label Studio Vibhor Sogani. His experimental style in the transformative visual language is reflected in his lamp designs and light installation portfolio which has made a mark in the International Lighting Industry. The designs under his label include artifacts and trophies for various national and international events including cricket series. Stainless steel is one of the prominent materials he uses for his large-scale installations and sculptures. The play of light and shadow and reflections within and around the work adds to the beauty and tranquility in his sculptures and designs. A remarkable skill in creating interesting space-related structures, monumental installations, environment-inspired designs coupled with his ability to handle different materials and metals - bronze, copper, brass, steel, stone, or mixed media gives his work its distinct look and feel.
Some of his successful consultancies and assignments include India’s largest and most visible public art installation ‘Sprouts’ located in central Delhi, the DRDO (Defense Research and Development Organization) pavilion for the Defexpo, which won him and his partner the Best Exhibition Design Award, ‘Mahatma in Me’, set of stainless steel sculptures, a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi which was exhibited nationally and internationally besides several installations located around India and in Dubai and other countries. Vibhor, a recipient of the ‘Indian Icon of the Year’ award at Camera, Catwalk, Canvas Singapore is a Government nominated member of the India Design Council. His work has been featured in several art and design shows in Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Bangalore as well as in Australia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, South Africa, Singapore and Germany among others. Vibhor lives in Gurgaon and works from his studio there.
