Born in Raipur, Chhattisgarh in 1990, Umika was schooled in Mayo College Girls’ School, Ajmer. Throughout her childhood and time in school she explored and developed her fondness for art. Her passion took her to completing her further education in fine art from Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan, West Bengal, India.
Umika picks her colours, textures and forms straight from “nature” to create the mood & experience in her work that include nature & its elements, human nature and their tendencies. Her work expresses a way of life by adding charm, flavor and value to what surrounds us.
In her paintings, Umika is allowing the viewer to enter her space and take a stroll. These forms create a psychological & abstract quality in her creations.
Around a decade ago, she chose to create awareness for the highly esoteric and formal religio-magical art of the Thangka painting. After having mastered this endangered art form from the wonderful
valleys of Dharamsala & Bhutan, Umika is currently focusing on redefining “Thangka” by bringing it to modern times.
Umika firmly believes that the true essence is achieved with ones connection to “nature”.
Her practice involves painting, photography, installations, art talks. Umika is currently working from her studio in New Delhi, India.
