B. Prabha was born near Nagpur in Maharashtra. She studied at the Nagpur School of Art and went on to pursue a Diploma in Painting and Mural Painting from the Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai. After a phase of women painted in a formal elegant style became her trademark experimentation, the artist finally settled on Oil on canvas as her preferred medium. Rural signature style. The artist however, painted several subjects, landscapes, social issues, to name a few.
The subject closest to the artist\'s heart was the plight of women in her country which she strived to immortalize. Prabha\'s signature style further evolved after her marriage to B. Vithal in 1956, when she shifted from modern abstract forms to a more decorative figuration. On the surface her work might look decorative, but has its roots in being a tribute to the plight of women during her time.
